Experiential care is for everyone, which is why we say, “Everyone gets to participate. It provides residents or clients with the essential sensory stimuli that contribute to their well-being. Without sufficient positive stimuli, the likelihood of cognitive or psychological problems may increase.

In this basic training, developed especially for the Multiple Disability Care, you will learn to apply various experiential elements. You will discover how to connect with your clients or residents through sensory means, which will enhance their quality of life and overall well-being.

For whom

Our basic training in Experiential Care is designed specifically for anyone involved in the healthcare industry. Whether you are a professional, a parent or family member of a client, a volunteer or a student, this training provides valuable insights and skills. In addition, care workers with a registration in the quality register Verpleegkundigen & Verzorgenden Nederland (V&VN) and a valid V&VN registration number will receive 6 credits for this training.

Learning Objectives

You will be introduced to:

  • Primary activation, also called snoezelen/sensory, as an effective communication technique for Experiential Care
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy and how it contributes to sensory experiences.
  • Practical skills in using sensory experience materials and thereby creating a safe and pleasant environment for clients
  • Specific applications of fragrance (aroma care) and sound (music and sound vibration) within healthcare
  • Practical applications such as working with the music-vibration water lying element and giving relaxing aromatic hand massages that are also applicable in a clinical setting


These skills are perceived by caregivers as workload reducing and provide insight into the added value of Experiential Care.

Results

After completing this training, you will be able to:

  • Provide relaxing hand massage to clients, including bedridden and/or with contractures
  • Connecting with resident/client to improve communication
  • Set up and maximize the use of a snooze room effectively
  • Essential oils safe to apply within the healthcare environment
  • Guide clients on the music-vibration water lounging element, contributing to their relaxation

After the training, you will be able to better connect with the resident/client and use perception and sensory integration as a means to achieve care goals. You will also learn how to set up snoezelen/sensory rooms, use snoezelen equipment, apply essential oils safely, and give relaxing hand massages to bedridden clients.

Meet Harry Broekhuizen and Judith Konings-Engelen, the experts behind our trainings. Harry, a healthcare professional with extensive experience, is a consultant with Barry Emons. Judith brings her specialization in aromatherapy and body-oriented therapy. Together they will teach you about experiential care and snoezelen/sensory and its benefits that can promote clients’ well-being.

Program

Barry Emons provides the Experiential Care for Multiple Disabilities training as a day training. The training lasts from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Maximum of 12 participants per day.
